Couture Design I

Course Description:

Couture I is a 40-clock-hour course within the Fashion Study Program. In this course, students will expand their design and drafting skills by exploring advanced sleeve, collar, blouse, and jacket constructions. Students will develop techniques in creating shirtwaist sleeves, men’s two-piece sleeves, specialty collars, and structured garments, culminating in completed blouse and jacket projects.

8-WEEK AGENDA

WEEK ONE

• Introduction to class

• Draft the following:

  • Shirtwaist sleeve

  • Armhole shirtwaist sleeve

  • Bicep shirtwaist sleeve

  • Square Bertha collar

WEEK TWO

• Draft the following:

  • Sport collar jacket

  • Two-piece sleeve

  • Blouse with yoke

• Cut sport collar jacket with two-piece sleeves

WEEK THREE

• Sew the sport collar jacket front and back

• Sew a two-piece sleeve

WEEK FOUR

• Continue drafting the sport collar jacket

• Cut and sew both jacket and blouse with a yoke

WEEK FIVE

• Continue working on the sports collar jacket

WEEK SIX

• Finalize the sports collar jacket

• Submit a sports collar jacket

WEEK SEVEN

• Sew a blouse with a yoke

WEEK EIGHT

• Finalize blouse with yoke

• Submit blouse with yoke
