Course Description:

Costume Design is a 40-clock-hour course in the Fashion Study Program. In this course, students will explore a variety of costuming techniques, including fabric dyeing, hat making, basic prop construction, garment adjustments for quick changes, and weathering.

8-Week Agenda

Week One

  • Learn about research, sketching, and budgeting

Week Two

  • Learn how to dye and weather fabric

Week Three

  • Learn about working with foam and thermoplastics

Week Four

  • Learn how to make a simple silicone mold

Week Five

  • Learn how to create wool fabric

  • Make accessories using wet-felted wool

Week Six

  • Learn basic prop painting and weathering techniques

Week Seven

  • Create basic silicone molds for props and costume jewelry

Week Eight

  • Cast several jewelry pieces using resin and the silicone molds created in class
