Body Draping I

Course Description:

Body Draping I is a 40-clock-hour course in the Fashion Study Program. In this course, students will design garments by draping directly on a mannequin. They will learn the full process of draping in muslin, transferring designs into paper patterns, and completing garments in mannequin size.

8-Week Agenda

Week One

• Introduction to the class

• Learn how to measure a mannequin

• Drape:

  • Basic bodice with dart

• Create a pattern on ABC paper:

  • Basic bodice with a dart

Week Two

• Drape:

  • Shoulder princess-cut bodice

  • Student-designed bodice with shoulder cut

• Create patterns on ABC paper:

  • Shoulder princess-cut bodice

  • Student-designed bodice with shoulder cut

Week Three

• Drape:

  • Armhole princess-cut bodice

• Create patterns on ABC paper:

  • Armhole design cut bodice

• Cut student design with a shoulder princess cut

Week Four

• Drape:

  • High-collar blouse

  • Wrap skirt with a waistband

• Create patterns on ABC paper:

  • High-collar blouse

  • Wrap skirt with a waistband

• See student designs from Weeks 2–3

Week Five

• Learn how to create a wrap skirt with a side tie

• Drape:

  • Wrap skirt with side tie

Week Six

• Work on the shoulder princess-cut project

Week Seven

• Continue work on the shoulder princess-cut project

Week Eight

• Finalize the shoulder princess-cut project

• Submit the shoulder princess-cut project
