Basic Design I

Course Description:

Basic Design 001 is a 40-clock-hour course within the Fashion Study Program. In this course, students will create original designs and patterns. Throughout the program, students will draft skirt patterns and construct doll-sized sample skirts to practice techniques. By the end of the course, students will design and produce full-size skirts of their choice.

WEEK ONE

• Introduction to class

• Drafting a basic skirt pattern

• Cutting the basic skirt

WEEK TWO

• Continue working on the basic skirt project

WEEK THREE

• Submit a basic skirt project

• Draft the following:

  • 2 double-pleated skirts

  • 4 double-pleated skirts

  • 6 double-pleated skirts

  • 4 single-pleated skirts

• Cut all mini skirt samples

WEEK FOUR

• Learn sewing techniques for pleated skirts

WEEK FIVE

• Draft the following:

  • Pleated skirt with fullness

  • Trumpet skirt

  • 4-gore skirt

  • 8-gore skirt

• Cut all mini skirt samples

WEEK SIX

• Learn sewing techniques for gore skirts

• Draft the following:

  • Full circular skirt

  • A-line skirt

• Cut a full circular skirt

WEEK SEVEN

• Select the final skirt project

• Draft skirt project

• Cut skirt project

WEEK EIGHT

• Finalize the full circular skirt

• Finalize mini skirts

• Submit a full circular skirt

• Submit the skirt project

• Submit all miniskirts
